1 Set-up

The slides for the workshop are available here

For this workshop you will need both R and Rstudio.

R is a statistical language that is very popular with statisticians and researchers. It is free and open source. Essentially the R language itself is just a calculator that accepts command line inputs. To make it more friendly, we use the program RStudio which runs on top of R and provides a limited graphical user interface. If you haven’t done so already you will need to install or update R to the newest version and install/update Rstudio to the newest version. You will also need administrator privileges on your computer.

Finally, you will need the data files for today’s workshop. You should download the datasets as a zip file, then store them somewhere convenient (e.g. your desktop).
